Why We Chose This Hotel

During my daughter’s one-week Spring Break, we wanted a short getaway that felt like a change of scenery without requiring a long drive.

London, Ontario—located about two hours away—was a convenient choice, and Delta Hotels by Marriott London Armouries stood out among local options.

This property is known for its unique history. The original structure once served as a military armoury, and today it is connected to a modern hotel tower. From the outside, the contrast between old and new immediately gives the hotel a sense of character that feels more distinctive than many standard city hotels.

Arrival Experience & Lobby Atmosphere

From the moment we arrived, the hotel felt calm and well-organized.
Check-in was efficient, and the staff were consistently polite and professional, creating a welcoming first impression without feeling overly formal.

While my husband completed the check-in process, I spent some time in the main-floor lobby. The preserved brick walls, high ceilings, and original architectural details were immediately noticeable.

Rather than feeling like a typical chain hotel, the space carried a quiet elegance, reflecting the building’s historic roots while still feeling comfortable and current.

Pool, Fitness Centre & Historic Features

Indoor Pool

A staircase connected to the lobby leads to a small indoor pool.

  • Clean and well-maintained
  • Suitable for younger children
  • Water temperature felt cool in March, which limited how long our kids wanted to stay

This aligns with what other guests have mentioned in reviews: the pool is a nice addition, but not a standout feature, especially during colder months.

Gym & Unique Layout

Exploring the lower levels of the hotel was surprisingly interesting.
Arched staircases, long corridors, and historic photographs from the building’s armoury days give the property a layout that feels very different from modern high-rise hotels.

The fitness centre and sports court are also located downstairs, and while functional, they benefit from the same sense of history that runs throughout the building.

Room Upgrade & Comfort for Families

We had mentioned in advance that we were celebrating an anniversary, and the hotel kindly provided a room upgrade, which was much appreciated.

Room Size & Layout

The room felt noticeably more spacious than what we typically experience at standard city hotels.

Even with two beds in place, there was generous space on all sides, allowing the room to feel open rather than crowded.
From a family travel perspective, this made a meaningful difference. The layout felt thoughtfully designed—comfortable, practical, and quietly refined, without unnecessary decoration or excess.

Bathroom & Amenities

  • Large bathroom with a separate shower booth
  • Very convenient when traveling with children
  • Basic amenities provided (shampoo, body wash, soap)

As is common in many Canadian hotels, items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and slippers were not included, so we brought our own.

A Kid-Friendly Highlight: The Duck Hunt Event

Because our stay coincided with Spring Break, the hotel was running a duck hunt activity designed for children.

How It Worked

  • Guests searched for five small rubber ducks hidden throughout the hotel
  • Returning them to the front desk allowed one prize draw

Prizes included:

  • Small toys
  • Bonvoy points
  • Complimentary breakfast vouchers

This activity encouraged us to explore different areas of the hotel and added a playful element to the stay. It was well-organized and genuinely enjoyable for our children.

Dining & Breakfast Experience

After some persistence (and an early-morning search), we eventually won a complimentary breakfast voucher for four. Breakfast was served at the restaurant located beside the front desk and followed an à la carte format rather than a buffet.

We ordered:

  • French toast and pancakes for the kids
  • An omelet and Eggs Benedict for the adults

With children, being seated and ordering from the menu made the experience far more relaxed than navigating a buffet. The service was unhurried and attentive, creating a calm morning atmosphere that felt more polished than a typical hotel breakfast setting.

That said, when factoring in the regular menu pricing, tax, and tip, breakfast may feel expensive if paying out of pocket—something future guests may want to keep in mind.

Location & Evening Atmosphere

The hotel is centrally located and convenient for downtown London.

However, guests may notice a more urban atmosphere in the surrounding area, particularly in the evening, with a visible homeless presence nearby. It did not directly affect our stay, but it is worth noting, especially for families or those sensitive to nighttime surroundings.
